Project 1B: Design Strategy Proposal

Tasks:

Building on design brief and pre-analysis of context, user and programme presented in Project 1a, design a building that delivers a strong relationship to place, people and time. It is imperative for your design to be environmentally sustainable and be knowledgeable of the materials, services and construction systems employed in the building, while adhering in principle to regulatory by-laws (UBBL) and fire regulation.

The building must be no larger than 2,000 sq.m. and not lesser than 1,800 sq.m built-in minimum of 3 levels but not higher than 5 levels which includes at the covered circulation.  As a guide to specific use, the final building should take into account the following, with approximate percentages to be used as a guide:

• 3-5% Services/core (lift, fire safety apparatus, pipe, M&E room, waste disposal etc.) 
• 5-10 % staff accommodation (staff quarters, visitors lodging, others) 
• 5-10% administrative space (offices, storage, file/supplies room, etc.) 
• 20-30% circulation (halls, corridors, stairs, ramps, lobbies, etc.) 
• 20-30% public space (restaurants, shops, library, toilets, MPH) 
• 30-40% programme-specific space (e.g. classrooms, kitchens, lecture halls, etc.) 

The building should also allow for a minimum of car-park spaces (refer to UBBL guidelines /requirements, roughly 18-20 slots) and a loading/unloading space for a minimum of  2 service trucks. Your scheme must also provide for a proper drop off zone for your user. Appropriate landscape space should also be included. The Task For your chosen site and programme, produce a formal architectural design strategy in response your proposed project.

• The design should explore and express your position in architecture, and synthesize issues relating to programme, user, site and other regulatory requirements. 
• Consider and include expanded aspects of design development in tandem with the design of spaces, e.g. regulatory requirements, fire safety, materials, construction/buildability, sustainability, feasibility and other relevant considerations, wherever possible, integrating their development to produce a richer, more multi-layered design. 
• The design consider and be sensitive to site context. Aim to address issues on site, aim to give the best design approach to one of Asian cities of the future.

Project 1B is an important check points to keep track on the design proposal whereby the direction the in aligned with the concept, context and analysis brought forward from the previous project. It is to develop a design brief that are compatible with the site proposed, by studying on precedents, I do gained a lot of ideas of design response and spatial planning, it is important to understand the design intention of the project and slowly develop into a well-cooked design.
